Korean test and measurement company NextLab has signed a memoriam of understanding (MOU) with global speed measurement company nPerf on the first day of IBC2022.
Through this MOU, the two companies will begin joint development of ‘as-a-Service’ devices and solutions that will differentiate them from existing competitors. They will provide their services to pay-TV and internet service providers and network operators around the world. NextLab has also secured the global broadband speed measurement service licence necessary for entering the world market with its portable pay-TV and broadband service quality measurement device netMeter.
(L-R) Renaud Keradec, CEO of nPerf, seals the MOU at IBC with NextLab CEO Sungmin Kim
Sungmin Kim, CEO of NEXTLab, explained: “This is a different concept. The current players in the internet test measurement device market are selling expensive devices to the ISPs or pay-TV operators. By co-operating with nPerf we want to deliver a service-based device: we will give the device free to the ISPs and they can pay for each measurements. We call it MaaS – measurement as a service. We don’t want to be recognised as a challenger in this market. We want to be the founder of a new market segment with nPerf.”
This portable device performs set-top box field tests and measures IPTV broadcast reception quality and broadband speed. Its key features include increasing pay-TV or broadband service subscribers’ satisfaction, as well as reducing unnecessary repetitive visits and set-top box replacement costs. NextLab claims that the major factor that distinguishes netMeter from other solutions is that it can additionally provide customised measurement functions to clients through OTA (over-the-air) update.
